JUNE is here!  Two weeks until our trip!

I first want to thank all of the readers of this site as well as our web site  www.whitehouseca.com
In just TWO WEEKS we have had over 600 views of our web page as well as over 100+ views of this blog.  We even have had multiple individuals link to amazon via our web page.  Thank You.

I know we are just beginning and I am learning every time I write an post something on both sites.  We have had readers from Hawaii and even overseas.  Google searches are sending people too.  Best  has been Facebook.  Please feel free to ask questions or send us comments via either site.  You should be able to link to each site from the other.

Last time I wrote about our memberships.  I did say we belonged to GOOD SAMS Club.  What I forgot  to say is a must--- their RV Travel & Savings Guide.  We just bought the new 2016 edition on Tuesday at our nearby Camping World store.  With membership with Good Sam, it only cost $6.95.

This is their 50th. Anniversary.  The book includes information on public and private parks and campgrounds across North America.  It of course lists the Good Sam Parks offering members a discount on stays but it list the others too.  A must and is even worth the $19.95 price for non-members.  You should consider membership because of the discounts on  fuel and even at Camping World stores.

I wanted to share an article I just read from THOR motorhomes.  It is a good reminder for us all as we start out on summer trips.

Saving Fuel While RVing

How To Save Fuel While RVing
Recreational vehicles have a bad rep for not being fuel-efficient. Advanced, lightweight designs are changing that perception. But even if your motorhome averages 8 to 9 miles a gallon, you can still save fuel by adopting some driving tactics and paying attention to certain maintenance procedures.
  1. A basic strategy is to avoid excessive idling as it wastes fuel.
  2. Keep your vehicle tuned up; a poorly-tuned engine can decrease fuel economy by up to 20 percent.
  3. Adjusting your tire pressure to the correct pressure can improve fuel economy by as much as three per cent. It can also keep premature tire wear or blowouts in check, saving you quite a few dollars in replacement costs.
  4. Use only the recommended grade of motor oil
  5. Avoid frequent speeding, which has been seen to reduce fuel economy by anywhere from five to 30 percent.
  6. Cleaning air filters or replacing clogged ones can improve fuel economy by up to 10 percent.
Talk to a few RVers who own the same size and class of motorhome as you. If there is significant difference in mileage, find out what they do differently to keep fuel costs low.
We also advise against obsessing too much about fuel costs. It is, after all, the fourth biggest cost when you're on a road trip. Pay closer attention to accommodation, food, vehicle payment and maintenance, which often tend to add up quickly. Also keep in mind that a rise in fuel costs impacts air fare and hotel tariff, so your RV can actually work out cheaper in the larger scheme of things.

How experienced RVers save fuel
Seasoned RVers may choose not to keep moving frequently, rather focus on finding a quality RV park or location that offers natural beauty, activities and conveniences. It is a practical approach that can help you conserve fuel without detracting from the RV experience.
Don't fill up fresh water tanks to the brim when traveling; you can always top it up at the campground. Travel light by holding off the purchase of firewood and other camping items till you reach the campsite.
The RV lifestyle is not necessarily about traveling to another state or driving long distances without a solid plan in mind. The prettiest campground or a serene boondocking area can be only a few miles away, so keep them on your radar.
